The US immigration policies are constantly changing which poses difficulties for people to understand the complex legal terrain. Although it would be time-consuming for you to go through all the updates in detail, we have brought you some noteworthy changes in 2024 that will directly and indirectly affect immigrants and their families. We are here to help you understand and navigate these updates in US immigration policies properly.
Current Scenario: Immigrants Boosting the US Economy
Recent Studies show that the United States relies heavily on immigrants in order to grow its population and job market, especially as the growth of the native-born population slows and older generations leave the workforce. After reaching its peak in 2007, the number of births in the U.S. has been steadily declining, which worsens the labor shortage. In turn, immigration is becoming more and more essential – almost 2 million working-age immigrants have joined in the past year only. They have brought in the needed relief from the labor shortages thereby, making the United States economy continue to grow and be stable.
Immigration Policy Changes 2024
Faster Processing for Work Visas:
One notable step has been taken here by the U.S. Government with the aim to streamline the employment-based visa process. As per the recent updates to the policies, skilled and talented workers will get quick and easy access to the U.S. But to get this entire procedure of employment visas clear and smooth, applicants will need to take care of mandatory documents such as qualifications and employment verification in order to reduce the processing times.
Digital Application Systems:
Another significant change in the policies is digital application systems. USCIS (U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services) has been moved from manual submission of applications and petitions to digital submissions. From now on, the applicant can upload different documents and monitor the status of the application in an efficient way. Though this change brings convenience, the applicants must be able to access online portals and electronic filing systems to get through the entire digital process effectively.
Changes to Family-Based Immigration:
Family-based immigration eligibility and sponsorship requirements are undergoing tightening in 2024. Candidates should crosscheck their financial sponsorship criteria to confirm if their sponsor meets the updated income thresholds and prepare for more detailed scrutiny of family relationships. Seeking legal advice from the Law Offices of Arsen V. Baziyants can help you address any of the intricacies in these types of cases.
Protection for DACA Recipients:
There is good news for DACA recipients. Key protocols for dedicated permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship have been created. Therefore, it is important for Dreamers to stay updated and informed about particular requirements and timelines in order to be able to take benefits out of it.
More Opportunities for STEM Graduates:
STEM graduates are expected to get more opportunities for jobs and better visa support. The new visa categories or adjustments will help you get a permanent residency in the USA if you have a degree in science, technology, engineering, or math.
